A couple of weeks ago, an attempt was made to violently abduct a 16 year-old girl we know in a very affluent neighborhood in Southern California. It happened in broad daylight in a busy shopping mall.
May I please impose upon you to forward this link to every mom you know? It really might just save a life.I do not believe that I have ever asked people to spread an email message on my behalf. Today I am going to break that rule and beg your indulgence... and your help.
No one wakes up in the morning and says, "Today I am going to become a crime statistic."
I know I never said it. But one day, I found myself, face down in a mattress with a gun to the back of my head and I heard the trigger cocked.
Inexplicable. Words will never describe the experience of knowing you are about to die.
Much later in my life, I teamed up with the 7 Time World Karate Champion, Johnny Gyro and his wife/partner and Fourth Degree Blackbelt, Noel Gyro, to create Defense Incorporated. They have a very viable solution and are determined to take on the violent crime epidemic with a program that I can first hand say works incredibly well. I have joined their effort in a single-minded cause of saving lives.
I am determined to help them. I want to make a difference in helping someone else not have to experience the terror that I lived to tell about.
We have made two Parent's Choice and Telly Award-winning dvds: One is entitled Live to Tell About It and the other is entitled Bully 911. They were produced to save women's (and men's) lives when confronted with violent and semiviolent behavior, and to thwart bullies from causing your child physical harm when running away and using their words is just not an option. The Illusion Factory donates the proceeds that it makes from these dvds to victims of violent crime programs. We put these dvds out for all fund raising programs to sell or for large companies to purchase inexpensively and pass out to their employees. The whole goal of this program is to raise knowledge, awareness and save lives.
The talk show and news show programs want to talk about the problem, because it scares everyone and makes great news... but we cannot get them to pay attention and discuss our solution (so far). The two television appearances on KTLA news and Fox's Best Damn Sports Show received tremendous viewer feedback. So if you have any influence on any of the producers and would care to suggest this as a great public service, we would hugely appreciate the favor!
We will stop women from being raped and killed and we will stop kids from taking physical punishment from bullies.End of story.
I was lucky. It took me 6 months of extreme nightmares before I had started to return to normal. I lived to tell about it. Both John and Noel were each victims of violent crime before they learned their karate and that motivated each of them to spend the rest of their lives preventing others from suffering the same terrifying experience.
These are programs anyone can learn in a few hours. And they are really fun to learn. They are much more empowering than you might imagine. And they are very effective.
